Multiple Instances of Yahoo Maps in a Single Page

Hi,

I am trying these thing for a quiet a long time but without any success, When I try to put more than one instance of yahoo map on a single page it is only showing one map instance and the other instance is not loading 😦

I have discussed this with the author of the AS3 toolkit of yahoo maps

U can see it here

The underlying AS2 code was not built to support multiple instances of a map within the same instance of a Flex module.

What’s interesting is that a direct AS3 tile handling approach is ultimately the best solution. Check out how well FlashEarth runs. It outperforms the API’s provided by the respective vendors. And this is a regular AS2 Flash app.

A direct BitmapData tiling strategy for Flex should be VERY fast. It would allow all sorts of cool usage. Shame it’s not in the works just yet. The present AS2+AS3 solution is SLOW and fragile.

    Hi Mario,
    Thanks for your input.
But till Yahoo doesn’t come with the AS3 version of the toolkit we have to manage somehow with this communication toolkit.
Do you think is there any other approach to this situation?
I am in the initial phase of trying one approach..It goes like this..
I am creating the Yahoo Map Instance on the base page of the MXML file and passing that instance to different view stacks as they are loaded.
And in different view stacks i m calling one method to put that instance of map inside the container.
I am in the very initial phase of doing this.. I will digg into this and post it here as i got some success..
    Cheers!

I’m on the verge of implementing a tiling strategy in place of using the Yahoo API. Preliminary tests suggest that performance can be improved dramatically; by a factor of 3 or more in most instances. In addition, it will be possible to use all of the nice features of Flex for doing map overlays. There would be no issue in having multiple instances of a map running concurently.

I would prefer not to have to do this alone. If there are others interested in tackling this as a collective effort, it should be possible to complete this in a week or so and wind up with a solution superior to what Yahoo is presently making available.

I won’t elaborate on the details here, but much of the work has already been done in a slightly different context.
